302. Develop the low-cost, low depth movable vertical rear projection VR screen.

The mobile VR screen module developed for a research institution met the requirements functionally, but the projector required a projection distance of at least 3 meters, and the installation space required was a major issue. To solve this problem, it is necessary to develop a new general-purpose screen. In 2012, the DK1, a low-cost VR goggle for developers, was announced, and in 2014, the DK2 was announced. After that, the commercial version of VR goggles Rift S was announced in 2016. (DK1, DK2, and Rift S are products of Oculus, currently known as Meta.) Considering that it will take time to commercialize the product, we are developing a mobile, vertically elongated 3DVR screen that does not require installation space.

Since we had already completed in-house production of a low-cost infrared motion tracking device, we began designing and commercializing a vertically long screen module that would allow 3D display beyond the height of the user while reducing the depth of the screen. In 2014, there was a market demand for further cost reductions and studies were conducted to improve mobility.
